  • TIPS TO GROW PROMOGRANATE.

    🌱 Site & Climate

Climate: Thrives in semi-arid to subtropical regions. Can tolerate drought but needs irrigation for high yield.

Temperature: Best between 25–35°C; sensitive to frost.

Light: Needs full sunlight (at least 6–7 hours daily).

    🌍 Soil

Well-drained loamy soil with pH 6.0–7.5 is ideal.

Avoid waterlogged areas → root rot risk.

Add organic manure (FYM/compost 15–20 kg per pit) before planting.

    🌳 Planting

    Spacing: 12 × 12 ft (300–400 plants/acre).

    Pit size: 2 × 2 × 2 ft, filled with soil + FYM + neem cake.

Best planting seasons: Feb–March or Aug–Sept.

    💧 Watering

    Young plants → irrigate weekly.

Mature plants → drip irrigation every 7–10 days during dry season.

Critical stages: flowering, fruit set, and fruit development.

Avoid overwatering → cracks in fruits.

    ✂️ Training & Pruning

Train plant as a multi-stemmed bush (3–4 main stems).

Remove water suckers, diseased, and crossing branches regularly.

Annual pruning after harvest → encourages new productive shoots.

    🌼 Flowering & Fruit Set

Pomegranate has three flowering seasons in India:

    Ambe Bahar (Jan–Feb) → harvest June–Sept

Mrig Bahar (June–July) → harvest Nov–March (preferred for export)

    Hasta Bahar (Sept–Oct) → harvest Feb–May

👉 For high yield: Choose one bahar, do bahar treatment (withhold irrigation & root exposure) to synchronize flowering.

    🌾 Nutrition

    Apply 10–15 kg FYM + 500 g N + 250 g P + 250 g K per plant/year in split doses.

Increase dose as plant matures (5th year onwards: 50 kg FYM + 1 kg NPK mix/plant).

    Foliar sprays:

Micronutrients (Zn, Fe, Mn, B) at flowering/fruit set.

0.2% Borax helps reduce fruit cracking.

    🐛 Pest & Disease Management

    Pests:

Fruit borer → bagging fruits or spraying neem-based pesticide.

    Aphids/whiteflies → insecticidal soap/neem oil.

    Diseases:

Fruit spot & leaf spot → copper fungicide.

Fruit rot → proper pruning, fungicide sprays.

Fruit cracking: Maintain uniform soil moisture + boron sprays.

    🍎 Harvesting

Fruits mature 5–7 months after flowering.

Harvest when skin turns bright red and metallic sound comes on tapping.

Average yield: 12–15 tons/ha in early years, can reach 20–25 tons/ha with good practices.

✅ Pro tips for high yield:

Stick to one bahar system for uniform flowering & good market timing.

Use drip irrigation + fertigation for efficient water & nutrient use.

Bag fruits (with butter paper or cloth bags) → reduces borer, cracking, improves quality.

Select high-yield varieties like Bhagwa, Ganesh, Arakta, Mridula.

    Monsoon Magic: Gardening in July

July in Andhra Pradesh brings the monsoon, creating perfect conditions for gardening. At Sri Veerabhadra Nursery, we’re here to help you nurture your garden with these seasonal tips.

    1. Plant Monsoon-Friendly Varieties

The rainy season is ideal for planting. Choose plants that thrive in humid, wet conditions. Our Flowers like Hibiscus and Shrubs like Crotons add color, while Fruit Trees like Jackfruit and Trees like Neem establish strong roots now. Visit us for saplings ready to plant!

    2. Prevent Waterlogging

Heavy rains can waterlog soil, harming plants. Ensure good drainage for Lawn grasses like Bermuda and Ornamental plants like Money Plant. For Aquatic plants like Lotus, maintain clean pond water to avoid stagnation. Add sand or gravel to soil for better drainage.

    3. Prune and Maintain

Monsoon encourages rapid growth, so prune Shrubs like Bird of Paradise and Flowers like Roses to shape them. Remove dead leaves from Fruit Trees like Avocado to prevent fungal growth. Check Trees like Coconut for loose branches after heavy rains.

    4. Fertilize Lightly

Avoid heavy fertilizers during monsoon to prevent root burn. Use organic compost for Fruits like Mango and Flowers like Hibiscus. For Lawn areas, apply a light dose of nitrogen-rich fertilizer to keep grass green. We stock organic fertilizers at our nursery!

    5. Watch for Pests and Diseases

Humidity can attract pests. Use neem oil on Shrubs and Flowers to deter insects. Plant Trees like Neem for natural pest control. For Aquatic plants, remove algae promptly. Inspect Fruit Trees regularly for signs of fungal infections.

Top Gardening Tips for Home Gardeners

Grow a thriving garden with these expert tips from Sri Veerabhadra Nursery!

    Home Garden

    Essential Gardening Tips for Beginners

Gardening is a rewarding way to connect with nature and beautify your home. Whether you’re starting a small backyard garden or a balcony oasis, these tips from Sri Veerabhadra Nursery will help you succeed.

    1. Prepare Your Soil

Healthy soil is the foundation of a thriving garden. Test your soil’s pH (aim for 6.0–7.0 for most plants) and enrich it with organic compost. For example, our Shrubs like Crotons and Fruit Trees like Mango thrive in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Mix in coconut coir or vermicompost for better water retention.

    2. Choose Plants for Your Space

Select plants that suit your climate and space. At Sri Veerabhadra Nursery, we offer a variety of plants perfect for home gardens:

    • Shrubs: Bird of Paradise for vibrant hedges.
    • Fruits: Avocado or Jackfruit for edible gardens.
    • Flowers: Hibiscus or Roses for colorful blooms.

    • Ornamental: Money Plant for indoor or outdoor decor.
    • Aquatic: Lotus for water features.
    • Lawn: Bermuda grass for lush, low-maintenance lawns.

    3. Water Wisely

Overwatering can harm plants as much as underwatering. Water Flowers like Roses early in the morning to avoid fungal issues. Aquatic plants like Lotus need consistent water levels, while Trees like Coconut require deep, infrequent watering. Use a watering can or drip irrigation for precision.

    4. Understand Sunlight Needs

Different plants need different light conditions. Fruits like Mango and Shrubs like Crotons need full sun (6–8 hours daily), while Ornamental plants like Money Plant thrive in partial shade. Place Lawn grasses like Bermuda in open, sunny areas for best growth.

    5. Natural Pest Control

Protect your garden with natural remedies. Plant Trees like Neem, which naturally repels pests. Use neem oil sprays for Flowers and Shrubs to keep aphids away. Check Aquatic plants for algae and clean ponds regularly.
